dukasimpo is now on Google Play, and we are happy about it. Anyone with an Android phone can install the app for free.

Before Google lets a new app into the store, a group of people has to use it for two weeks. Our testers did that. They installed early versions, recorded sales, and told us what they found. The app is better because of them. Thank you.

Why we built it

A duka is a small shop: a kiosk, a market stall, a store on the corner. Most keep their records in an exercise book, or in the owner's head. That works until you want to know how much you sold last week, what profit you made, or which items are about to run out.

dukasimpo keeps those records on your phone. You record each sale as it happens, the app takes the items off your stock, and it adds up the day for you. It works without a signal, in Swahili and in English.

We want record keeping to take a few taps, so that a shopkeeper can spend the day serving customers.
